Patrick Moore writes hard-boiled urban fantasy: crime stories where the shadows have teeth.
For twenty-five years, Patrick has made a living with words. He has written campaigns, press releases and strategy documents, and he teaches communications and writing to college and university students. He holds a Master’s in English. All of that has taught him the same lesson the old pulp writers knew: every sentence has a job, and the good ones do it fast.
His fiction comes from a long love of the hard-boiled detective story: clipped dialogue, bad weather, worse choices, and a detective who knows exactly how much trouble he’s in. The Cold Iron Trilogy drops that detective into a city where the monsters are real, and the treaty that keeps them hidden is starting to come apart.
Iron Summer, the first book, introduces Jake Morrison, a veteran of Omaha Beach with a sliver of iron working its way toward his heart, and the New Amsterdam of 1947, a city of heat, neon and secrets. Book two, Iron Winter, arrives in 2027.
