Iron Summer by Patrick Moore, book cover

Book One of the Cold Iron Trilogy

Iron Summer

The dead don’t stay down in New Amsterdam. Somebody’s making sure of it.

August 1947. A heat wave has the city by the throat. At ten past midnight, Jake Morrison gets the call: industrialist Thomas Kellerman is dead in his locked penthouse, sixty floors above Wall Street, drained white without a drop of blood spilled. An hour later, the corpse gets up and tries to kill the detective who called him.

Jake came home from Omaha Beach with a piece of shrapnel near his heart and something no surgeon could explain. The iron makes him immune to the tricks of the hidden side, and it lets him see what the rest of the city can’t: the blood-drinkers on the night shift, the fae behind the billboards, and the treaty that keeps them all a secret. But every fight and every ward he crosses moves the iron closer to his heart.

Kellerman is the third victim. All three were keepers of that secret. All three got back up, each one closer to the street than the last. With Victory Day only days away and a million people headed downtown for the parade, someone is building toward a resurrection the whole city will see.

To stop it, Jake will have to go deeper into the hidden side than he’s ever gone, and dig up a past he buried on a beach in Normandy.

Some debts don’t stay buried. Neither do the dead.
